Boy killed, five injured in Assam blast

Assam,Terrorism, Mon, 29 Oct 2012 IANS

Guwahati, Oct 29 (IANS) A minor boy was killed and five others were injured as suspected militants carried out a grenade attack in Assam's Udalguri district Monday evening, police said.

The motorcycle-borne militants lobbed two grenades at the crowded market in the town, about 80 km from Assam's main city Guwahati. While one grenade exploded, the other did not, police said.

Six people including the minor boy were injured, police said adding that the boy breathed his last while on the way to hospital. The deceased was identified as Naresh Shah, police added.

The five injured also included his father Ramu Shah, police said.

Although no militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the blast, police suspect the hand of the anti-talk faction of the national Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) behind the incident.

The NDFB faction has been trying to make their presence felt in Udalguri and other adjoining districts, police added.

Meanwhile, in another incident, unidentified assailants fired at two employees of a mobile company in Nagaon district Monday evening, injuring both of them.

The two injured - Partha Das and Amrit Das - were taken to Nagaon civil hospital, police added.
