The king also took part in traditional rituals once the procession reached the royal palace where as per traditions weapons were worshipped and other such rituals were performed.

Dussehra celebrations were also observed in western Maharashtra state's Shirdi city where devotees thronged to the famous Sai Baba shrine for celebrations.

The shrine of the famous saint Sai Baba witnesses huge gatherings of devotees.

A temple priest said that Sai Baba is revered by the devotees and on the occasion of Dussehra, the temple authorities make elaborate arrangements for celebrations and prayer are also held in the temple complex.

"On this occasion Sai Baba took up Samadhi (non-dualistic state of consciousness) in 1918. And it happened on the occasion of Dashmi and the Sai Baba Sansthan (organisation) makes arrangements to celebrate the occasion," said Mahesh Baba, a local priest.

Apart from Ravana, the gigantic effigies of his brother Kumbhakarna and son Meghnath are also burnt every year on the occasion of Dussehra.Dussehra also symbolizes the triumph of the Goddess Durga over the buffalo demon Mahishasura.
