New Delhi, Oct.21 (ANI): The Union Home Ministry is of the view that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) should be allowed to visit Pakistan first to determine the necessity for a Pakistan judicial panel visiting India to cross examine the Mumbai terror attack witnesses.
According to sources in the ministry, New Delhi feels that the NIA team would need to examine the material evidence collected against arrested 26/11 terror attack prime accused by Pakistan before allowing a Pakistani judicial panel to visit Mumbai and New Delhi.
It maybe recalled that in March this year, a eight-member Pakistani judicial commission had visited India following a bilateral agreement. But when a Pakistani court dealing with the 26/11 case had said that evidence collected by the commission during its first visit to India in March had no "evidential value" to punish those involved in the Mumbai terror attack, New Delhi backtracked on giving permission for a second visit.
Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde has conveyed India's desire to sent an NIA team to Pakistan to his Pakistani counterpart Rehman Malik, when they met on the sidelines of the SAARC ministerial meeting in Maldives last month. (ANI)
