Kota (Rajasthan), Oct.15 (ANI): Kota Police have arrested three persons and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition.
The gang was actively smuggling arms from Madhya Pradesh and a search operation for them was launched after getting a tip-off, police officials said.
Inspector General of Police, Kota, Amrit Kalash, said the three were travelling in a bus and were nabbed at a checkpoint with three bags full of arms.
"We had received the information that from Madhya Pradesh three arms smugglers, who are residents of Dhar (district) and Ujjain (district) have boarded a bus. We accordingly launched a search operation at various checkpoints. We caught them in a bus near a police station. We recovered three bags full of arms, which they had hidden under their feet," he said.
Kalash said 172 rounds of ammunition, including some prohibited weapons, were seized. There were about 58 sophisticated pistols and revolvers, he added.
He added that an inquiry has been launched into the matter.
This is the second incident of arms smuggling from Madhya Pradesh to Rajasthan.
In August this year, the Special Operations Group (SOG) seized arms and ammunitions, magazines from a Madhya Pradesh-based man at a bus stand. (ANI)
