Delhi traffic cop dies in road accident

New Delhi, Oct 15 (IANS) A 42-year-old Delhi Police traffic constable was crushed to death by a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus here Monday morning, police said.

Ratan Pal, who was deputed at south Delhi's Lajpat Nagar traffic circle, was crushed by the DTC bus, plying on route number 410, near south Delhi's Lajpat Nagar flyover around 8.30 a.m.

"Pal was rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) where he was declared brought dead," said a police officer.

"The errant bus driver, identified as Somveer Singh, 24, has been arrested and a case of rash and negligent driving has been registered against him," added the officer.

The bus, running between Lajpat Nagar and Khayala, took a right turn at the traffic signal near Lajpat Nagar flyover and crushed Pal, a resident of south Delhi's Deoli village, to death.

The bus has been impounded.
