Football festival with a difference

New Delhi, Oct 15 (IANS) It was a football tournament with a difference, a promotional event for corporate houses, schools and non-governmental agencies. The Football Link International Festival 2012 attracted 400 teams.

The week-long futsal festival, that ended Sunday, recognised by the Delhi Soccer Association (DSA), saw a large number of football enthusiasts throng the Thyagraj Stadium to show off their skills.

Coaches and scouts from English Premier League club Manchester City and Italy's AC Milan were eager onlookers at the festival, but it is not clear what their jottings were on the talent paraded before them.

The corporate tournament, which saw 64 teams, was played across four categories which included a Platinum cup, Gold cup, Silver and Bronze cup. American Express defeated Genpact in the final of the Platinum cup while the Gold Cup went to WNS with Venture Unlimited taking the runners-up trophy.

The Silver Cup winner were Newgen and the runners-up was Genpact C. In the Bronze cup category, Google took the top spot followed by Dunnhumby which also bagged the fairplay team award and the fairplay captain award.

The F Cube or the open category tournament, where 256 teams from the capital competed for cash prizes worth six lakh, was won by ISS and the runners up were Delhi's Leo.

The school championship witnessed 80 teams in the U-16 category, U-13 category, U-16 girls and U-16 NGO category . The Junior boys trophy was bagged by Navyug School, Sarojini Nagar, with Chinmaya Vidyalaya taking the runners-up spot.

The sub-junior boys winners were Cambridge, Ghaziabad, followed by Scottish High. The best girls team was Modern Barakhamba and the runner up in this segment was the team from TAFS (The Air force school). Literacy India won the NGO tournament while Butterfly took the coveted second spot.
