'Congress shielding corrupt leaders involved in coal scam', alleges BJP

Jammu, Thu, 04 Oct 2012 ANI

Jammu, Oct 4 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday pulled the Congress-led UPA Government for shielding its leaders involved in the coal scam.

BJP spokesperson Kirit Somaiya alleged that the Prime Minister's Office is misusing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to protect the culprits involved in the coal scam.

"Congress has started an operation to shield its party leaders who were involved in the multi-million dollar coal scam. The Central Bureau of Investigation has been misused and it is being done under the instructions of the Prime Minister's Office," said Somaiya, while addressing a meeting of the BJP workers here.

"Bharatiya Janata Party wants to know that about 400 billion rupees have been swindled and till date, why not even one minister has been interrogated," he added.

The coal scandal dominated the Monsoon Session of Parliament after the CAG report said that the under-priced sales of coalfields would have cost the national exchequer as much as 33 billion dollars in lost revenues.

The second-worst session since the 2009 Lok Sabha elections functioned for only six out of 19 days and remained paralysed for the remaining period due to the standoff between ruling UPA Government and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party.

Somaiya further said that he would fight a battle against the irrigation scam in Maharashtra until the perpetrators are sent behind the bars.

"The court pulled up Congress on September 25 and the next hearing is on October 12. I will fight the battle in the court until the scam worth 700 billion rupees comes to an end and all the money is back, and the culprits are punished," he said. (ANI)
