Baba Ramdev rubbishes 'misbranding' accusations, calls it Centre's propaganda

Haridwar (Uttarakhand) , Wed, 26 Sep 2012 ANI

Haridwar (Uttarakhand), Sept 26 (ANI): Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Wednesday denied allegations of irregularities in the labelling of some of the food products marketed by his Divya Yog Mandir Trust, and called it the Central Bureau of Investigations' (CBI) attempt to "defame" him.

Speaking to reporters here here, Ramdev said, "CBI and all government agencies are trying to defame our campaign. They are framing false and baseless allegations on us."

"I have all the governments reports. We did not break any quality parameters. They are saying that our labels are not correct. We are following government parameters. We did not break any quality parameters. You can check quality of our mustard oil anywhere. The quality of our honey is better than government's honey. We are following all the rules and regulations made by the government. We have corrected our labels according to new standards. They are saying that we are not following their new rules," Ramdev added.

Earlier in the day, Haridwar District Magistrate Sachin Kurve said that irregularities have been found in labelling of six products and such violations have been termed as "misleading" and "misbranding".

Salt, mustard oil, honey, black pepper, pineapple jam and Arogya Besan were the six sample food products that were under Rudrapur-based Food and Drug Testing Laboratory's scanner from where the complaint surfaced.

"It states that the product is manufactured elsewhere while claims of purity have been made by brand Patanjali, which becomes misleading," Kurve said.

Following the complaint, a legal notice was sent to Ramdev's trust that denied all allegations hurled against its labelling of food products. However, there were no comments on the qualities of food in the complaint. (ANI)
