Panaji, Sep 26 (IANS) The Goa government's new beach shack policy, which was unveiled Wednesday, has made CCTV cameras mandatory in beach shacks in order to keep an eye out for anti-social elements or potential terror threats.
The beach shack policy released by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has made between four to eight CCTV cameras mandatory for each beach shack at the time of granting of licence.
"The shacks will have CCTV cameras installed, which should give real time footage of the videos recorded with internal looping and non-invasive characteristics," the policy states.
The beach shacks have been allowed to open from 7 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., while loud music will have to be stopped at the stroke of 10 p.m.
The nearly 300 beach shacks, which dot Goa's coastline, are very popular with the hundreds of thousands of tourists who visit the state. Both young working professionals and foreigners smoking charas and ganja-laced joints are not uncommon at these palm-frond thatched structures.
