New Delhi, Sep 4 (IANS) The Delhi assembly witnessed sloganeering, ruckus, adjournments and a walkout on the first day of its monsoon session with the BJP demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit over the alleged irregularities in the preparations for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Delhi Assembly Speaker Yoganand Shastri had to adjourn the session twice when there was an uproar over the recent Delhi court order which held that the complaint against Dikshit in the CWG bugling case was "maintainable."
The proceedings of the house, which began with a paying tribute to late film actor Rajesh Khanna, was stalled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members who raised anti- Dikshit slogans and demanded her resignation leading to the adjournment of the house.
Shastri had to adjourn the session again for 15 minutes when opposition leader V.K Malhotra demanded the suspension of question hour and discussion on the alleged role of Dikshit in the CWG scam.
"The debate cannot be held as the matter is judicial," said Shastri which incensed the opposition party members.
When session resumed, the BJP members staged a walkout but after sometime the they came back and joined the proceedings.
Describing the behaviour of BJP as "anti-democratic" and "uncalled for", Dikshit in a statement said: "They are in habit of creating ruckus in the house and they are not at all interested in smooth conduct of business in the house. It looks, they are following their senior leaders in the Lok Sabha where logjam continues due to adamant attitude of their party."
"The opposition is behaving against all established rules of the house. The continuous shouting, chanting slogans and display of placards affects dignity of the house," the statement added.
