New Delhi, Aug 17 (ANI): Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar on Friday said that the northeastern people residing here were safe, adding that all possible assistance would be provided to the community.
Interacting with mediapersons here, Kumar said, "We assure them that they are safe, they are secure and we will make sure that no harm comes to them and if at all they any such information or any such threat, they should immediately inform me."
He added that phone numbers of seven nodal officers in different districts of the national capital have been made public for the northeastern community's aid in case they face any threats.
Kumar said that the police has requested the northeastern community to inform them of any rumours, so that their security could be ensured.
Violence between the Bodo tribe and Muslim communities broke out on July 20, after unidentified men killed four Bodo youths. In retaliation, armed Bodos - who dominate Kokrajhar and Chirang districts - attacked Muslims, suspecting them of being behind the deaths.
The violence has had a spillover effect in various parts of the country, with mass exodus of northeastern community taking place in Mumbai and Bengaluru. (ANI)
