Man robbed at Noida mall, two hurt in shootout

Noida, Aug 6 (IANS) In a daylight robbery at the Great India Place mall in Sector 39 Monday, three men robbed a man of several lakhs of rupees and shot at a security guard and auto driver who tried to chase them.

Two of the robbers were overpowered by security guards while one slipped away, police said.

Noida Senior Superintendent of Police Pravin Kumar told IANS that the incident took place at around 3 p.m. when three armed men drove into the mall parking, robbed a businessman and tried to flee. When the victim raised an alarm, security guards deployed at the mall tried to stop the robbers, who opened fire.

A security guard was shot in his hand and an auto driver caught a bullet in his back.

Passersby and other security guards rushed to the scene and overpowered the robbers. While the crowd beat them up, one managed to escape. Two robbers have been arrested. They have been admitted to Vinayak hospital, where their condition is stated to be out of danger.

The money has not been recovered as it was with the robber who escaped. Police have launched a manhunt to apprehend the criminal while a probe has been ordered on how the armed robbers managed to infiltrate the mall premises.
