Anupam Kher supports Anna

Mumbai , Sun, 29 Jul 2012 ANI

Mumbai, July 29 (ANI): Bollywood actor Anupam Kher on Sunday extended his support to veteran social activist and anti-graft crusader Anna Hazare, who is currently observing hunger strike-unto-death in New Delhi to exert pressure on the Central government to enact a strong Lokpal Bill.

He joined scores of activists of India Against Corruption (IAC) here, who had organised a roadside rally in support of Hazare.

Speaking to the mediapersons, Kher said that as an Indian citizen, it was his moral responsibility to support the anti-graft campaign started by Anna Hazare.

He also expressed concern over people not raising their voice against corruption with a quip that in such a scenario, the future generation may have to face a hollow system of governance.

"I, as a citizen of India believe that corruption has reached new heights and Anna Hazare and his supporters have taken this initiative to fight this malady. I believe that I should participate in this movement, as corruption has severely affected the social and political fabric of our country. If we won't support this movement or not participate then our children or subsequent generations will get a country that is hollow in all respects," Kher said.

A close associate of Anna Hazare, Mayank Gandhi also supported the movement and said that they would intensify protest if government doesn't respond to their demands.

"Today, we have organised a rally in which many people have participated to create and spread awareness about the movement initiated by Anna Hazare against corruption, so from here we would proceed to Azad Maidan," Gandhi said.

Earlier in the day, Hazare began his indefinite fast in New Delhi, joining Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Gopal Rai, who have been fasting since Wednesday.

Team Anna is pressing for a strong Jan Lokpal Bill and an inquiry into allegations of corruption against 15 central ministers including the Prime Minister.

They have also sought the transferring of cases against political party chiefs, which are being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to the SIT. (ANI)
