Elderly women's murder case solved, five arrested

New Delhi, July 26 (IANS) Five people, including a juvenile, have been arrested in connection with the sensational double-murder case during robberies in two houses Tuesday in a Delhi locality, police said Thursday.

The accused, identified as Rusy, 22, Rajesh, 25, Ravinder, 21, Mahesh, 20, and a juvenile, were arrested from their hideouts in west Delhi's Mangolpuri and Rohini.

Shanti Devi, 65, and Reshma Rani, 67, who resided in two houses barely 500 metres apart in sector-3 of west Delhi's Rohini South, were found stabbed to death Tuesday.

"Rajesh, the gang leader, Rusy and Ravinder were apprehended the same day (Tuesday) on suspicion of involvement in the crimes. They later accepted their involvement in the crime. On their instances, the other two were arrested," said T.S. Luthra, joint commissioner of police.

Luthra also said that all the accused were involved in more than one criminal case.

Three stolen silver coins, two ATM cards and blood stained clothes have been recovered from the possession of the accused.

Shanti Devi was stabbed by the robbers around 1.30 a.m. Tuesday, and died of her injuries in Jaipur Golden Hospital in Rohini.

Reshma Rani was stabbed at her daughter's house shortly after the first incident, and died during treatment at Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital.

In the first incident, the robbers entered Shanti Devi's four-storeyed building and held her hostage at knife point to rob the house. She lived on the ground floor with her husband Bishan Lal, 70, and her younger son Bhimsen, 28, while her four other sons lived on other floors.

In the other incident, Reshma Rani, who was living at her daughter's three-storeyed house, was found stabbed on the ground floor. Her daughter and other family members live on other floors in the same building.
