Kanpur, July 19 (ANI): Veteran freedom fighter Captain Lakshmi Sehgal, who worked with Subhash Chandra Bose during the freedom struggle, was admitted to a local hospital here on Thursday, following a cardiac arrest.
Sehgal's daughter Subhashini Ali said that her 97-year-old suffered a heart attack on Thursday morning.
"Doctors are trying their best. She has suffered heart attack in the morning. She is 97-year-old. She has also suffered a brain haemorrhage. She is still breathing and is conscious but her condition is not good," Ali said.
Sehgal was head of women regiment of the Indian National Army (INA) set by Bose in 1943 to secure India's independence from the British empire.
She unsuccessfully contested 2002 presidential poll against former Indian president APJ Abdul Kalam. (ANI)
