New Delhi, July 17 (ANI): Rajasthan Energy Minister Dr Jitendra Singh has demanded special status for the state's power sector, as 11 hill-dominant states of the country are already enjoying this benefit.
Addressing a meeting of state energy ministers organised by the Planning Commission at Vigyan Bhawan here, Singh urged the Centre to release a grant of Rs.1350 crore for 32 power projects in Rajasthan.
He claimed that hamlets with a population ranging between 100 to 300 people are still not electrified.
He also revealed that about 10 lakh hamlets called Dhaniies with a population of less than 100 were in dire need of electrification.
He also made a request for four coal blocks for six super critical power stations to be set up in Rajasthan during 12th Plan, and central assistance for expansion of transmission system of renewal energy based projects.
Dr Jitendra Singh also informed that Rajasthan has potential in the field of solar and wind energy and added that the state government has fixed a target of achieving 25000 megawatts of power generation by the end of 12th Plan.
He said that Rajasthan at present is generating about 10500 megawatt of power and intends to achieve a target of 5000 megawatts and 15000 megawatts of power generation by the end of December 2013. (ANI)
