Vice Presidential elections on Aug 7, EC announces poll schedule

New Delhi, July 3 (ANI): The election to the post of Vice President will be held on August 7 and the results will be declared the same day, the Election Commission (EC) announced here on Tuesday.
Pronouncing the poll schedule, the Election Commission, after its meeting, decided that it will issue the notification on Friday, which will set the election process in motion.
The last date for filing nominations is July 20, and the candidatures could be withdrawn latest by July 23.
The Vice-President is elected by the members of the electoral college consisting of members of both Houses of parliament. There are a total of 790 members of parliament.
The term of the current Vice President, Dr. Hamid Ansari, expires on August 10. (ANI)
