Agra, June 18 (ANI): Thousands of devotees gathered at the Taj Mahal to take part in the 357th Urs of Mughal Emperor Shahjahan.

Visitors paid homage at the graves of Shah Jahan and his wife Mumtaz, in whose memory, the Taj Mahal has been built.

"Visitors come here. They give a religious offering and offer prayers. They also offer a special cloth of flowers, which has rose water and other items," said Tahiruddin Tahir, President of the Khuddam-E-Roja Committee.

A record 450-metre long 'saptrangi chadar' was offered at the graves as part of the ritual. Sandalwood powder was also sprinkled on the graves.

The devotees expressed satisfaction with the security arrangements.

"This is the 357th Urs festival, 356 festivals have already taken place, but every year whenever the doors of Taj Mahal opened, there was no superintendent or any security. I would like to praise the superintendent this time that they were ready with arrangements," Haji Sardar Beg, a devotee, said. (ANI)
