JK Rowling's first grown-up novel likely to smash 'Harry Potter' sales record

London, June 17 (ANI): Harry Potter author JK Rowling's first novel aimed at adult readers is being tipped to break sales records, as the bookshops are being swamped with orders more than three months prior to its publication.

The Casual Vacancy is a "blackly comic" tale about a town ripped apart by a parish council election and is likely to hit stands late in September.

'Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows', which got released in 2007, sold 2.6million copies on its opening day alone, becoming the world's fastest-selling book, the Daily Express reported.

"It is on course to become the most popular yet. Although this is her first novel for adults there are millions out there who enjoyed the Harry Potter series and will want to read this one. So she has a ready-made readership," a spokesman for the high street retailer Waterstones said.

Rowling, who lives in Edinburgh, is worth about 620 million pounds. (ANI)
