Sampath to assume Chief Election Commissioner's office today

New Delhi, June 11 (ANI): V. S. Sampath, a 1973 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, will assume office as the 18th Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of the country on Monday.he 62-year old was appointed the CEC last week, and will preside over the next General Elections, scheduled in 2014.
He has had stints in various capacities in Andhra Pradesh and New Delhi, and has served as Power Secretary at the Centre before being appointed as Election Commissioner in April 2009.
Sampath replaces S.Y. Quraishi, who demitted office on Sunday after a near two- year stint as the CEC. (ANI)
