Thiruvananthapuram, June 8 (IANS) "7 Notes to Infinity", a 60-minute documentary on Indian classical music, will be premiered here on the eve of World Music Day - June 20.

Directed by Shrenik Rao, the film explores the universality of music through the infinite compositions created from the seven musical notes - Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni.

Through interviews and songs, the film draws parallels between Indian classical music and other forms of music across the world while presenting lyrically beautiful compositions of renowned musicians.

Speaking about his experience, Rao said that visually and lyrically juxtaposing Indian classical music with other forms of world music and finding inter-linkages between them was like an exploratory voyage into the world of music.

"When 'Bollywood music' is being recognised as the world standard on Indian music, I chanced upon the idea of telling the story of Indian classical music and I am glad I had this opportunity. The film has six songs and this film will be a treat for music enthusiasts," said Rao.

M. Balamuralikrishna, T.V. Gopalakrishnan, Prince of the Royal family of Travancore, A.T. Rama Varma, the direct descendant of the great music composer Maharaja Swathi Thirunal, besides a group of enthusiastic children eager to learn music, feature prominently in the film.

Shot on location in Kerala, the film throws light on Maharaja Swathi Thirunal's interest in music.

7MB (7 Media Broadcasting Pvt. Ltd) has produced the film and is said to have a limited theatrical release in select cities in India.

Apart from the theatrical release, the film is set to be screened in Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston, University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University and Cornell University.

"Maharaja Swathi Thirunal's contribution to Indian classical music is priceless and it's a privilege for State Bank of Travancore to be associated with this film," said Nandakumar, managing director, of SBT, the main sponsor of the film.
