Aurangabad (Maharashtra), June 3 (ANI): Unstable climatic conditions and insufficient rainfall has hit mango production here, affecting the local as well as the export varieties of the fruit.
Interacting with reporters recently, farmers blamed climate change and paucity of water for the dip in production.
"Whatever produce we had this year has been ruined. I think one of the main reasons is climate change and second is scarcity of water. We are distressed due to this," said, Devdasi Tarak, a mango grower.
He urged state authorities to grant financial aid to farmers.
"We request our representatives to talk to state authorities and urge them to give us compensation. We also expect some aid in such trying times from the state government," he added.
Farmers also complained of the produce not fetching good dividends.
"I have about 500 orchids and this year I made huge investments into mango production. However I could not even recover the cost of half of them. I have faced huge losses," Tarak said. (ANI)
