Militants attack CRPF men in Srinagar, eight injured

Srinagar, May 30 (ANI): Two motorcycle borne militants opened fire at the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) men on Wednesday morning, injuring eight personnel. One of the injured is reportedly critical.

The incident occurred at around 7.15 a.m., when the bike borne assailants opened indiscriminate fire at the CRPF men of the 82nd Battalion in Khanyar area of the old city as they were leaving their headquarters at Shiraz Cinema for law and order duty.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Srinagar, Aashiq Bukhari, said, "At least seven security force personnel were injured in the militant attack at Victory Crossing near Khanyar," adding that while one soldier received bullet injuries in the chest, six others received injuries on their limbs.

The injured were rushed to SKIMS Hospital at Soura where the doctors said condition of one was critical.

Official sources said the driver of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet while the pillion rider had covered his face with a mask.

No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

Police has sounded an alert across the city and an operation has been launched to track down the attackers. (ANI)
