'Shake and fold' to pat hands dry with just one paper towel

Washington, may 29 (ANI): A US attorney has demonstrated the perfect paper towel technique, which can dry out wet hands with just a single piece of tissue.

Joe Smith of Portland, Ore, who showed his novel technique in a recent TED talk, has also given a very good reason as to why one should all comply with his request.

Smith claimed that if every American would reduce his or her paper towel usage by one paper towel per day, it would save 571,230,000 pounds of paper a year, the Disocery News reported.

Prior to his hands-on presentation, Smith described what almost everyone all seen and experienced in public restrooms.

If the paper towel dispenser gives out the tri-fold towel variety, people usually take two or three.

If the dispenser is the manual pull-and tear type, people usually pull out the lever two or three times.

Moreover, even if the dispenser is motion-activated, conservatively providing only one sheet at a time, people wave their hands repeatedly until they get 'enough.'

"The fact is, you can do it all with one towel," said Smith.

Smith reveals that the way to master this art is to shake and fold

First step includes shaking the hand off the extra water.

Smith insisted that 12 good shakes should suffice.

"Why 12? 12 apostles, 12 tribes, 12 zodiac signs, 12 months. And the one I like the best: It's the biggest number with one syllable," said Smith.

Second step involves folding the paper towel

According to Smith, whatever the size, colour or type of towel, you must be sure to fold it in half before beginning to dab your wet hands.

According to Smith the fold is imperative because it allows "interstitial suspension."

"You don't have to remember that part, but trust me," he added. (ANI)

So, U.S alone is responsible for wasting over 500million pounds of paper annually despite its limited population compared to any 'third world country'. And still all the international agreements are for 'third world countries' to check and curb their wastage and pollution. Uncle Sam is not to be blamed for anything? Amazing.
