New Delhi, May 13 (ANI): Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar announced on Sunday that the Lower House would skip lunch on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the first session of Parliament, as it was a historic occasion.

According to reports, there were murmurs of discontent, amid reassurances that provisions for lunch have been made in room number 10.

Kumar said the House was in self-regulatory mode today and urged other members of parliament, especially Independents to speak.

Meanwhile, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi was one of the few parliamentarians to read from her notes. Most of the others spoke extempore, including Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Sitaram Yechury and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley. (ANI)
