Firozabad, May 12(ANI): Police in Firozabad district of Uttar Pradesh baton charged the protesting villagers on Saturday, as they pelted stones on policemen and blamed them for their inaction over the killing of a minor girl.
According to the police officials, a 10-year old girl was reported missing since Thursday and the family had lodged a complaint in the police station.
"A girl named Preeti, aged around 9-10 years was called by her neighbour Madhu to sleep at her place. Two of Madhu's brothers, Sunil and Rahul were also present in the house. Preeti has been missing since then. The girl's family registered a complaint in the police station and the accused were arrested. Today, body of Preeti was found from the drain," said, Ashram Yadav, a police official.
However, villagers allege the girl was raped and murdered and claim that the accused were set free by the police after they accepted a bribe.
Furious locals pelted stones at policemen and vandalised their vehicle. In retaliation the police baton charged the locals.
Yadav added that things would be clear once the post-mortem report comes and assured the locals that proper investigation would be conducted in the matter.
"There would definitely be a proper investigation. We are not aware about the details of the matter, which would come to light after the post-mortem and it is then we would know what happened exactly," added Yadav. (ANI)
