Nitish Kumar refrains from commenting on presidential candidate

Patna, Mon, 07 May 2012 ANI

Patna, May 7 (ANI): Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has refused to comment about the candidate most suited to be the next president, saying there is enough time to discuss the matter as also for the polls to be held, if at all.

"Our party (Janata Dal-United ) has not discussed anything about the candidate for the next presidential polls, I think this is not an appropriate time to talk about this. There is enough time for the polls. The party will discuss about it when time is apt, and there could be discussions in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) about the same, but only when the time is apt," Kumar told media here.

" Our party is not discussing about any candidate, and in that retrospective, it would be not apt for me to announce anything concrete," said Nitish Kumar.

Both the Congress-led UPA and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA lack majorities in the electoral college for the July presidential polls.

There have been reports that the Congress is reaching out to allies to arrive at a consensus on Vice President Hamid Ansari or Pranab Mukherjee for the coveted post.

President Pratibha Devisingh Patil's term ends on July 25 this year. She has been president since July 25, 2007.

The president is the constitutional head of the country and the supreme commander of the armed forces. (ANI)
