Apex court to pass order on Yeddyurappa case next week

New Delhi, May 4 (IANS) The Supreme Court will pass an order next week on the recommendation of a panel seeking a CBI probe into the allegations of quid pro quo in the payment of donations to an NGO owned by ex-Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa's relatives and mining companies.

The apex court forest bench headed by Chief Justice S.S. Kapadia gave time till Saturday evening to Yeddyurappa's lawyer, senior counsel V. Giri, to submit all the documents relating to court proceedings on the matters recommended by the Central Empowered Committee (CEC) on Environmental Matters to be investigated by the CBI.

The court sought the documents after Yeddyurappa's counsel told it that all the aspects on which the CEC has recommended a CBI probe are already under investigation on the direction of a special judge and the CEC recommendation should not be acted upon.

As Yeddyurappa's counsel resisted any action by the court on the CEC recommendation, the court said if it had documents pointing to a strong prima facie case for investigation, then it could not shut its eyes. The court said the documents before it clearly point to the violation of the Karnataka Land Acquisition Act.
