Phasidewa (West Bengal), Mar.29 (ANI): The fencing of the India-Bangladesh border has helped to curb the smuggling of cattle along the border in West Bengal.
The government and the Border Security Force (BSF) has completed fencing of six of the 7.8 kilometers of the international border area in the Phasidewa region of the state.
Local residents have welcomed the fencing of the border.
The company commandant of the 184 BSF Battalion, Giby K. George, said that the smuggling of cattle has become negligible after the fencing of the border.
"The BSF has successfully managed to bring about a reduction in the smuggling of the cattle. Everybody is reaping the benefit. We are quite happy with the fencing and will try to fix the few gaps, which have been left and will ensure smuggling of cattle does not take place at all," he said.
Sanjib Roy, a resident of Phasidewa village, said he was now able to sleep in peace.
Both India and Bangladesh are trying to take steps to strengthen the bilateral relations between the two nations. In order to provide impetus to the trade relations, the governments of both countries have taken a decision to open certain routes to facilitate the free movement of traders and goods. (ANI)
