Aarushi murder case: SC dismisses Talwars' plea for shifting of trial

New Delhi, Fri, 02 Mar 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Mar 2 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a petition filed by dentist couple Rajesh and Nupur Talwar for shifting of trial against them in connection with the murder of their teenage daughter Aarushi from Ghaziabad to Delhi.

An apex court bench of Justices B S Chauhan and J S Khehar dismissed their plea saying security was adequate in the Ghaziabad court.

The apex court further said it was satisfied with the undertaking provided by the government on security.

The couple had submitted in the court that it has been a traumatic experience for them to go to Ghaziabad to face trial, and that they also face a security threat there.

The Talwars' had submitted it would be better to hold the trial in New Delhi, as it would not only be convenient for them, but also for the witnesses and the prosecuting agency.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had, however, earlier opposed the plea, and said there has been an attempt by the couple to delay the trial and assured the court that proper security arrangement would be made for the Talwars' in Ghaziabad.

Aarushi (14) was found murdered under mysterious circumstances in her parents' Jalvayu Vihar apartment in Noida on May 16, 2008. The next day, their domestic help, Hemraj's body was found on the flat's terrace. (ANI)
