YSR Congress Party welcomes house committee to probe into land allotments

Hyderabad , Thu, 09 Feb 2012 ANI

Hyderabad, Feb 9 (ANI): Welcoming the house committee to probe into the land allotments, the YSR Congress Party on Thursday said the time-frame should be from 1995 to 2012 and the terms of reference should be made clear, if the intentions of the state government are clear and not aimed at tarnishing the image of YSR, his family members and supporters.

"The heated debate on land allotments took place on March 28, 29, 2011 in the assembly and when TDP members spoke ill of YSR; his brother YS Vivekananda Reddy vented his ire. Eleven months after the incident, the Government orders a probe into the land allotment, as demanded by TDP, which shows its malafide intentions," party spokesperson Jupudi Prabhakar Rao told mediapersons here.

"We don't mind for the house committee probe, but are doubtful of the intentions of the Government as it has ordered the investigation on the demand of Opposition TDP, without making clear the terms of reference but only naming 17 members and fixing six months time to give the report," he added.

Jupudi Prabhakar Rao demanded that the sub-committee should probe all land allotments from 1995 till date to show transparency.

"We demand that the sub-committee should probe all land allotments from 1995 till date to show transparency, or else it will be clear that the Government is on a witch hunt targeting YSR, his family members and associates," he said.

He further said Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N. Chandrababu Nadu had allotted 18,000 acres to 24 companies during his tenure.

"Chandrababu Nadu has allotted 18,000 acres to 24 companies during his tenure and the terms of reference should include the land allotments from 1995 till the recent Ameerpet allocation when K Rosaiah was the Chief Minister," he said.

Even the Emaar land was allotted by Naidu and the Kiran Kumar Reddy government even failed to send its Advocate General to the Court to present its version, Jupudi said adding that since TDP was asking for a probe into the allotment of lands druing YSR term, if the State yields to the demand it would be nothing short of a match fixing.

"It tantamounts to conspiracy being hatched by Congress and TDP if the probe is limited only to the period of YSR term. It was the late chief minister who brought Congress back to power and if the party joins hands with Opposition to order the probe with ulterior motives, only because his son, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has taken a different stand, people will teach a lesson," he said.

Since the government is badly bruised with scams and dissent, the sub-committee probe can be seen as a diversionary tactic, Jupudi said adding the former Assembly Speaker, Yanamala Ramakrishnaidu, went on record defining house committee probe as a tool only to get what the government wanted.

"If what the State Government wanted is to tarnish the image of YSR colliding with TDP, then they have to face the consequences or else should they want to prove their sincerity, the terms of reference should include the land allotment from 1995 till the present day," he said. (ANI)
