Jan 02: Fifteen minutes of madness which sent whole nation in utter shock, when the nation woke up to the horrifying call of mob behaviour on January 2 in which two women's modesty were outraged.
Whole nation hanged its head in shame over the alleged molestation of two women by a mob of 70-80 men in Mumbai in the wee hours of New Year.
The two women were overpowered by the frenzied mob soon after they emerged from a five star hotel with their male companions at 1.45am.
The two women groped on the street, their clothes were torn off and molestation lasted for fifteen minutes at the heart of city.
This incident has impounded a major question about the safety of a woman in big commercial cities like Mumbai, which is considered to be the safest place for women. But is it?
Last year too a similar incident had come to notice when a girl was striped and molested at the crowded place of ‘India Gate' on New Year Eve, the public and her friend watched her helplessly being molested.
Social attitude and media ethics
Such barbaric crime has brought into the picture of a modern India where mob culture is breeding at fast rate, the indecent group of like minded people come together to inflict a damage to human kind which will take ages to forget.
The indifferent attitude of police and all the security personnel who always arrived after crime has been committed; is not only questionable but painful too as very few victims are able to take a stand against such violence but are badly in need of help.
Media ethics too become debatable when a part of it published the photograph of the incident showing the women in ‘objectionable' situation amidst the hysterical mob.
The stench of such incident has left many women to question their existence as of how long it will take to educate the educated and bring a change to the social attitude of people who still project women as an ‘object of lust.'
We often do compare such heinous crime with animal but I wonder how they would have reacted coming to such incident.

January 2, 2008 at 12:00 AMDrunken Mob Behavior, Y dont we fight for Banning Public drinking.
Y Happyness to us means bieng Mad and Rash.
Y happyness means Law lessness. we seriously need to review our Countries behaviors... This opprtunistic and lusterios Crime should be dealt in special courts.. and we need to learn some thing from Mid eastern countries how to curb this.
Only Few need to Dealt with public execution and proper advatisement in each Media house... i ma sure this would not happen. again
Such an incident is not new for an average indian women who must have felt the humiliation by the perverts in one form or the other. Its only that this issue got its due but there are so many such cases that happen daily but go unnoticed and i do wonder how soon the justice will prevail. Er are accusing the mob behavior but we are forgetting that the problem starts at the individual level.Had those who were part if the mob been civilised at the individual, perhaps the situation been in control.
But we all just speak our minds but never take any action. perhaps its tough for us to change the nation as a whole but we can change ourselves first for sure......
