Victory for Modi and BJP in Gujarat

Dec 23:  Giving a severe jolt to rebel leaders and the opposition, the hate figure of Muslims and Hindutva poster boy Narendra Modi yet again gained the command of Gujarat by registering nearly two-third majority in the assembly election for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in a record fourth term.

Narendra Modi today proved that he is unstoppable despite all odds and became the Chief Minister of Gujarat for the third time. The ruling BJP defeats its main rival Congress by securing 117 seats compared to 59 of Congress. While NCP managed to get only three, the Janta Dal United (JD-U) obtained one and two goes to independent tally.

The most surprising fact that out of six BJP rebel leaders who contested with the tickets of Congress lost their seats and only Bavku Ughad from Babra constituency won. This proves that Narendra Modi has immense credibility with the people of Gujarat, as said by senior party leader Arun Jaitley.

Despite the Sohrabuddin row and factors like incumbency, internal crisis in the party, the ruling BJP just come with a victory margin with ten less than it had scored in 2002 election. However, opposition Congress did managed to improve its position by adding eight seats in its previous performance but not the exact it was claiming.

As Modi is going for the sworning-in ceremony on Dec 27, his victory certainly left various questions in the mind of opposition especially Congress who again lost the battle of Gujarat to make a mark in the 182-member Assembly.

Though BJP lost many seats in the central Gujarat, the centre of attraction for 2002 riot, it continued its good performance in places like Saurashtra, North and South Gujarat. Chief Minister Narendra Modi himself won his Maninagar seat with a victory margin of 87,000 which is more than the previous poll.

Describing the victory as the victory of the people of Gujarat, Modi said: “people have approved a stable, efficient and transparent government which enhances their feeling of security and positively voted for continued growth and development”. Anti Gujarat forces have been defeated in this election and he will continue to stand up to the expectation of the people, he added.

Lose of seats in central Gujarat shows that congress had played communal card in Gujarat but failed in other parts of the state. The real communal party is congress, can be proved from all the past elections since independence.
