Doctors' strike enters fourth day in Kolkata

Kolkata , Tue, 28 Sep 2010 ANI

Kolkata, Sep 28 (ANI): The strike called by junior doctors in four out of five Government hospitals here has entered its fourth day.

The strike has crippled many medical facilities in the city.

The relatives of the patients complained that their relatives were not getting looked after properly.

"They told me, 'Bring the patient tomorrow'. We spend Rs 300 on taxi to reach here. Where will we get that money again? Now they are saying that there is no point in collecting the reports today, as no good doctor is present in the hospital due to strike," said Babu, relative of a patient.

West Bengal Health Minister Suryakanta Mishra has appealed to the junior doctors to withdraw their strike and come for talks. He has also cautioned the doctors that if they failed to fall in line, then the Government would be forced to deal with the matter strictly.

The strike started on September 25 with the doctors demanding more security after a doctor was manhandled by a patient's relative. (ANI)
