12th European Union Film Festival in full swing at Kolkata

May 17: The 12th European Union Film Festival (EUFF) is in full swing in India, in four metropolitan cities of India, Delhi, Pune, Calicut and Kolkata (Calcutta). The final drama of the event which will commence on May 19 and up to May 24 will conclude in the ‘City of Joy’, Kolkata. In this city the event will be hosted in association with Nandan, the West Bengal Film Centre.

More than twenty films from different European countries will be screened all over India. These films reflect European life style, economy, culture and some more aspects of the continent. Many of these films have received awards in Europe and in several international film festivals across the world.

The academy in screening some selected movies from modern European cinema to Indian public is in an effort to make film a popular medium at the same time promoting their culture. As Europe and India are important partners in WTO, these kinds of film festivals also offer an important platform for strategy making both political and economical. This develops mutual understanding and extends cooperation by generating acceptance of different cultures.

Starting from April 24, the festival has already screened several films in cities like Pune, Delhi, and Calicut and in cooperation with different organisations in the cities. Currently, the Calicut (Kozhikode) is hosting the festival (from May 14 to May 18. In its final stage the EU Film Festival will screen more than 20 internationally acclaimed films that reflect various facets of European culture.

The Lives of Others (Das Leben der Anderen)

Iberia
Country – Spain, Released – 2005, Director – Carlos Saura, Cast – Manolo Sanlucar, Sara Baras.

Tiro no Escuro (A Shot in the Dark)

Do Not Disturb
