A bitterly contested critical election

Dec 10:  Exchange of words between political leaders is somewhat common during election period but this time in Gujarat assembly polls it is turning out to be against the secular and constitutional values of the nation. The manner in which the political parties are addressing and misguiding people will certainly add fuel to spark tension among different communities.

The communal statement by our politician is their political mobilisation strategy just to divide people of different religions and thereby isolating the nation and eroding the notion of democracy just for political gain. Development is no more an issue as both Narendra Modi and Sonia Gandhi have on their way to personal attack as a result the Election Commission has got no option left but to send a notice seeking explanation for their loathing speech.

Politicians are masters in their tactics of taking common man out of the core issue – development – by adding conflicting ideas in the name of religion and taking note each other’s statement. First it was Congress leader Sonia Gandhi described Modi as ‘Merchants of Death’ in her December 1 speech and later Modi in his usual fashion hit back Mrs Gandhi not personally but what in his stomach by justifying the fake encounter in his Dec 4 election speech.

Election Commission taking note of different human rights organisations has first asked Modi to reply within a timeframe and then also sent notice to Sonia Gandhi on her remark with a December 11 deadline. Modi in his reply simply accused Congress party for provoking him to deliver such speech but to what extent it is justified is a matter of concern as defending Sohrabuddin Sheikh’s killing not only raise the curtain from the role of government in that fake encounter in the name of terrorism but also disturbing the whole communal equilibrium.

The Commission is yet to come out with action against Modi after his reply by saying that Modi’s reply needs to be carefully examined and hence the delay. Sonia Gandhi and Congress leader Dig Vijay Singh are also asked to answer by December 11. Though Modi argued that his statement was in the contest of terrorism and not any religion but eventually he confessed his hands against the extra judicial killing. It may or may not go against Modi as average Gujaratis believe he is the pride of the state with the development and moreover the protector of Hindus.

On one hand Modi is trying to appeal vote bank by speaking against Islamic terrorism and Congress. He mentioned Digvijay Singh’s speech – existence of Hindu terrorism in Gujarat to catch the attention of the people of Gujarat. In the end it is in the hand of the people of Gujarat to identify the development or Hindu-Muslim issue in the state as it always sounds.
