Tere Bin Laden; A Slapstick Satire

New Delhi, Sat, 17 Jul 2010 NI Wire

Tere Bin Laden (TBL), well from title one will get the feel that it is a biopic on the America's most wanted terrorist Osama Bin Laden. But the truth is that this film is not a serious war film nor has a terror theme as it involves the name of world's most wanted terrorist. But on the contrary it is a situational comedy, a spoof on America and its paranoia of terrorism. Therefore don't expect a typical B-Town fare which include lavish song-and-dance routines, crying, car chases, damsels in distress and villains.

Well, the story revolves around Ali hassan (Ali Zafar) a television reporter in small news channel who is a desperate to migrate to America but never was able to fulfill his dream because every time whenever he tries for a visa to U.S, it got rejected every time. After many failures to get a visa he concluded that only way to go to the land of his dreams can be possible only with a fake passport. But that also cost big bucks which obviously our hero doesn't have and therefore to gain some quick bbucks and to fulfilled his dreams he plans to make a fake Osama tape with the help of a poultry farm owner Noora (Pradhuman Singh) who has a striking resemblance to Osama Bin Laden, a make-up artist (Sugandha Garg), a laidback cameraman (Nikhil Ratnaparkhi), an Arabic scriptwriter (Chirag Vohra) and DJ-cum-dubbing artist (Rahul Singh) and sell it to a Television channel that is always hungry for TRP's. Without knowing what can be the consequences they execute their plans successfully but the things get serious when White House get involved and send his team of secret agents headed by American agent (Barry John) to trace down our poor Osama. Seeing the after effects of his fake tape our hero wants to come up clean but then to do that he have to forget about his American dreams which he simply can't do so he and his gang again come up with some more quirky ideas which leads to further confusion. But it is only due to all these confusions that make this film viewable and the audiences have the rib tumbling laughter throughout the film.

The Art Director of TBL has made some splendid efforts to create the Karachi's atmosphere in Hyderabad, India while the efforts of Debutant Director Abhishek Sharma is appreciable for handling such a complex subject with excellent maturity. The film is a slapstick comedy a satire on hoe we Asians are desperate for a U.S. visa and how Americans are paranoid with terrorism but still this film some how has an international appeal due to its Subject. Watch out for leading actor Ali Zafar who is the star in the making and Pradhuman Singh without him the theme of this film can not be imagined.
