India, Myanmar sign five agreements including counter-terror pact

New Delhi, July 27 (ANI): India and Myanmar on Tuesday signed five agreements, including a pact on rendering mutual assistance in criminal matters, as part of its endeavour to foster good relations between the two nations.

 

Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of Statement Peace and Development Council of Myanmar is on a five-day State visit to India.

 

Today, a treaty on mutual assistance in criminal matters was signed between Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and Myanmar Minister of Foreign Affairs U Nyan Win.

 

External Affairs Minister S M Krishna and Myanmar Minister for Economic Planning and Development U Soe Tha signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) btewen the two countries regarding Indian grant assistance for implementation of small development projects.

 

However, an agreement on cooperation in the fields of science and technology was also signed between T. Ramasami, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology and U Kyi Thein Ambassador of the Union of Myanmar, New Delhi.

 

Both the neighbour countries also signed a MoU on information cooperation and for the conservation and restoration of the Ananda Temple in Bagan. (ANI)
