Washington, July 1 (ANI): A new book has shed light on some pregnancy myths and offers tips to couples who want to get pregnant.

'A Baby at Last!: The Couples' Complete Guide to Getting Pregnant' is written by Dr. Zev Rosenwaks and Dr. Marc Goldstein, two world-renowned fertility specialists at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. The book is co-written with Mark Fuerst.

Goldstein and Rosenwaks advice couples to have regular sexual intercourse during the woman's most fertile time of the month.

They also suggest cutting smoking, alcohol intake, and stress and encourage eating healthy, and exercising moderately.

Men should avoid excessive heat and tight-fitting shorts. Women should limit caffeine intake and maintain some body fat.

Another important tip is to avoid medications like anabolic steroids that contain testosterone can reduce male fertility, and drugs like heroin and cocaine that can interfere with ovulation. Some drugs for hair growth, hypertension and Crohn's disease can also affect fertility.

"The common misconception is that fertility is a woman's issue, but it happens just as frequently in men. This is why a couples-based solution is imperative," says Rosenwaks.

Goldstein said that unlike earlier, when there were no corrective medical procedures for to induce ovulation, no microsurgical techniques to unclog fallopian tubes in women or blocked ducts in men, today there are many more options that couples can choose from.

The book also offers advice on when to seek a medical evaluation - both for men and women. (ANI)
