Blood donation camp organized for Jhargram train mishap passengers

Panskura (West Bengal), June 14 (ANI): The Indian Railways have organized a blood donation camp here for the passengers injured in train derailment near Jhargram in West Bengal's West Midnapore District on May 28.

 

The camp, which started on May 31, has been organized by the Railways, with the help of woman Trinamool congress party workers, near the Panskura station.

 

About 250 persons donate blood each day at the camp.

 

"For those people who are facing these problems, we want them to get well as soon as possible. We want others to come forward and donate blood for those who need it," said Nirmal Roy, a blood donor.

 

Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee had ordered railway officials to organize a blood donation camp for the injured passengers soon after the accident.

 

"Mamata Banerjee ordered us that time, that blood donation should be done for injured. We had paucity of time but yet we followed her order and as per her order women Trinamool Congress Party has organised the camp," said Sadhan Dasgupta, Railway Medical Officer.

 

Over three thousand people have donated blood in this camp so far.

 

Sixty-eight people died and about 200 were injured, when 13 coaches of Mumbai-bound train that was running between Khemasoli and Sardiya stations derailed near Jhargram at around 1: 30 a.m. on May 28. (ANI)
