Plays from north-eastern states dominate Bharat Rang Mohatsav

New Delhi, Jan 26 (ANI): Theatre groups from Northeastern States exhibited their rich cultural and traditional heritage through their plays at the 12th Bharat Rang Mohatsav held here recently.

 

A Tangkhul folk Play from Manipur, "Asang Eina Aton" was performed by Khenjonglang theatre group at the annual theatre festival organized by the National School of Drama, Delhi.

 

The play directed by S. Thanin Leima was performed exclusively by Tangkhuls of Tongou village in Ukhrul District.

 

The play revolves around the two central characters Asang and Aton and their tragic love story after they were separated because of differences in their social status.

 

Exotic traditional attires, ornaments and magnificent stage setting were the best part of the play, which was shown for the first time outside the state.

 

"Theatre is not only entertainment. Through theatre, we can preserve our tradition, culture and promote and expose them." S. Thaninleima, Director of Manipuri play.

 

'Monglee' is another play from Northeast that was presented by Assam's theatre group 'Dapon, The Mirror'.

 

Directed by Pabitra Rabha, the Play is also based on the folk and cultural traditions of the Bodos tribe of Assam.

 

The play focuses on the various aspects of Bodos' community life and the creation of 'Kheria', one of the biggest festivals in Assam.

 

Theatre lovers thronged the venue to sample a variety of plays staged during the event.

Other plays like Black Orchid, When We Dead Awaken and Rajarishi Bhagyachandra from Manipur, Technicolor Dreams 2 from Nagaland and Miri Zeeyoree from Assam were also staged during the festival. By Karam Roniya (ANI)
