Lucknow, Thu, 21 Jan 2010 ANI

Lucknow, Jan 21(ANI): Several Uttar Pradesh Government employees were injured on Thursday when police resorted to baton charge when they were staging a demonstration in Lucknow to press for their demands.

The employees demonstrated on the first day of the budget session with their 14 demands, which includes implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations.

Clashes ensued between the police and the employees when they tried to step ahead towards the council house. Police also used water cannon and tear gas to stop the employees.

Condemning the baton charge, the State Government Employees Association decided to go on an indefinite strike.

"The government didn't approve our demands but instead they baton charged thousands of our employees during the demonstration. We totally condemn this heinous act and our association announces an indefinite strike from Sunday," said Bajrang Bali Yadav, general secretary of the Uttar Pradesh State Government Employees Association.

Many vehicles were also damaged during the stone pelting by the employees. (ANI)
