Nov 07: Nandigram is boiling over the tension inflicted in the region, which has taken a bloody route from the movement against land acquisition.
Tuesday was just another day of violence in Nandigram, in which 10 people died and left many injured.
The fatalities occurred when CPI (M) supporters exchanged fire with the supporters of Trinamool Congress backed ‘Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee’, BUPC.
It has been reported that thousands of supporter have fled from Nandigram to escape by the offensive instigated by the supporter of CPI (M) to gain the lost ground.
The situation remains tense in Nandigram even police and journalist are not able to have access to the village.
S Panda, Superintendent of Police said, “When the police tried to move into Nandigram they came under fire leaving one policeman injured”.
The continuous turf between the two has also become a political ground to prove their political supremacy.
Nandigram was at peace few months before but the situation transform took place when the state government had decided to make it a chemical hub with Salim group of Indonesia that was strongly protested by villagers. The protest was condemned as it took life of many innocent people and there was also report of physical assault of women.
The project was withdrawn by the state government but the soils of Nandigram become a zone of conflict between the supporter of CPI (M) and BUPC, since then many lives have been lost.
All the roads going towards Nandigram have been dug and the administration becomes paralised.
In the recent bout, it is reported that CPI (M) supporter who has fled the village and are now in the refugee camp in Khejuri has been known to launch attack from time to time.
Trinamool Congress is back on the street of Kolkata and now asking for Central intervention. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has expressed concern over the bloody war in Nandigram and has asked the Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil to take all the necessary action.
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress has asked invocation of Article 355 in the wake of the violence in Nandigram. It has also raised its voice to Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee asking for his resignation on account of failure of his government in curbing the violence.
