Jalpaiguri (West Bengal), Nov 29(ANI): A female bison died on the spot after being mowed down by a speeding train passing through the Chapramari forest range in West Bengal on Saturday.

The incident took place at 9 a.m. in the morning in Jalpaiguri district.

"The bison collided with the speeding train and was thrown 19 meters away due to the impact. It died on the spot," said Sudhama Oraon, member of the forest protection committee.

The forest officials also blamed the callousness of the train drivers for repeated accidents.

"It is written here that trains have to slow down when they reach this area. This is the third bison killed like this in this year," said Dhoni Oraon, beat officer of Nagrakata.

In the past years, animals like leopards, bison and deer have died after being hit by speeding trains. (ANI)
