Oct 25: The second South Asian Film festival begins with the screening of Pakistani film 'Muhabbtan Sachiyan' here on Tuesday. This year Pakistan will be in the spotlight as last time Sri Lanka instated the fest with maximum number of films showcasing a rich vibrant culture and tradition.
The week-long film festival that concludes on October 29 aims to bridge a gap between different cultures of various countries by showcasing their history, culture and tradition with cinematic excellence at a common platform.
All the eight members of the South Asian countries are participating in this festival to represent their nation’s core values through films, which is one of the most creative medium to reach out a larger mass crossing their geographical boundaries.
This time the fest includes the screening of 45 films including short movies, documentaries apart from those mainstream movies. In that sense it provides a greater amount of scope to all those newbie directors and actors in demonstrating their skills in front of the international audiences.
Also it is a great display place as far as promoting regional films in international market is concerned. At the same time such film festival can develop a better mutual understanding and in turn a broader trading opportunities.
Organised by the South Asian Foundation (SAF), a recognised body by the South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), the festival aims to foster peace and harmony across South Asian nations.
