Mumbai, Sept 23 (ANI): Priyadarshan along with cast and crew of 'Kanchivaram' celebrated its success at the 55th National Film Awards here last evening.
It is a Tamil film on the silk weaver community of Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu.
'Kanchivaram', picked up trophies for best movie and best actor at award function held on September 7.rakash Raj won the award for best actor while Umashree was adjudged the best actress for her role in the Kannada film 'Gulabi Talkies'.
"I think he has truly tried at the right time with the film like 'Kanchivaram'. It's his vision and dream, which held us all together," said Raj.
Adoor Gopalakrishnan won the honours in the direction category, picking up a Swarna Kamal for his Malayalam film 'Naalu Pennungal', which also won the award for best editing.
Priyadarshan, who has made some commercial comedy Bollywood movies like 'Hera-Pheri', 'Hulchul' among others, expressed deep regret in the selection of Indian movies for Oscars.
"We got the hype of the film only after it won the national award. We have seen films going to Oscar. Every country sends their best films to Oscars. In India, they sent the worst film to Oscar. Because every country sends their best film to Oscar, and here, we have a system we send films selected by some people, some federation," said Priyadarshan.
The director also said the film would not be dubbed in Hindi as he believes the essence of the film would be gone. However, the film might get dubbed in any other south Indian language.
Priyadarshan is known for numerous commercially successful movies in Malayalam cinema in the 1980s and 1990s. In Bollywood, he is known for making remakes of Malayalam films, which include 'Gardish' (1993), 'Hera Pheri' (2000), 'Hulchul' (2004), 'Kyunki' and 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa' (2007). (ANI)
