Dharana (Haryana), July 20 (ANI): Dozens have been injured in clashes sparked off by a same-clan marriage at Dharana village in Haryana where the village council ostracized the groom's family.
Trouble broke out after 24-year-old Ravinder Gehlot married Shilpa Kadyan against the wishes of the village elders.
The village council decreed that the Gehlot family should dispose off their property and leave the area by Sunday (July 19) and also asked other villagers to shun them.
Heavy police deployment was ordered in the area as villagers armed with staffs started gathering, threatening the life of Gehlot's family.
Frightened family members said that they would be forced to leave the village if the situation remains unchanged.
"Villagers are pressurising us...we will have to leave the village if situation remain unchanged," said Rohtash Gehlot, father of the bridegroom.
Police officials said that they would provide complete security to the family.
"The situation is under control... All family members are safe, we will provide full security to them and nobody could harm family members," said, Rajiv Deswal, deputy superintendent of police, Jhajjar. (ANI)
