London, July 18 (ANI): During her concert in Udine, Italy, Queen of Pop Madonna paid a tearful tribute to the two stagehands who lost their lives while building the set for her gig in France.
The two men, one French and one British, had been killed when a crane fell on July 16, causing a large section of the stage for the singer's Sticky and Sweet tour to collapse.
Several others were injured in the incident, with most being technicians working under the platform at the Marseilles Stade Velodrome.
Madge, who was left devastated by the incident, used her gig in Italy to share her grief with fans, urging everyone in the audience to send their prayers to the families of the men killed, who she lovingly nicknamed "The Two Charlies".
"Before I continue the show I just wanted to take a moment to acknowledge and pay tribute to two people who lost their lives today," the Daily Star quoted her as saying to the crowd at her concert.
"You may have heard of it... When they were building my show in Marseille, where we're going next - we don't know why, but one of the cranes fell... Two men lost their lives, it was a great tragedy to me.
"I feel so, so devastated to be in any way associated with anyone suffering. Let's all just take a moment to say a prayer for The Two Charlies. Our hearts go out to their families and loved ones... We are so blessed and lucky to be alive," she added.
Out of the stage workers injured, one is in critical condition, two others are due to undergo surgery, and seven others have been treated and released from hospital, according to Alexandre Lanzalavi, a spokesman for Marseille Hospital. (ANI)
