The first-round talks between the all-party delegation and representatives of Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti held on Saturday failed to reach to any amicable point on the land transfer issue as protestors didn’t deviate from their demand of immediate return of land to the shrine board.
An all-party meeting headed by Home Minister Shivraj Patil joined the table after Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti (AYSS) agreed for talk but with condition. As per their demand, four prominent leaders of Ghulam Nabi Azad, Saif-ud-Din Soz, Mehbooba Mufti and Farooq Abdullah didn’t attend the meeting.
The Sangarsh Samiti convener Leela Karan Sharma told reporters just after the meeting that as the talks couldn’t yield any result, their agitation in Jammu will continue further which has been extended to August 14. However, both parties have decided to hold another round of talk.
Several groups protesting against the revocation order today defied curfew and came into brawl with police which left five injured. Over 50 protestors have been arrested for violating curfew.
Under similar tense situation, the army had staged flag marches on Saturday and imposed curfew restrictions in several districts of the Jammu region.
