Kaiga/Mangalore (Karnataka), June 12 (ANI): A probe has been ordered after a senior scientific officer posted at the Kaiga Atomic Power Plant of Nuclear Power Corporation of India in Karnataka went missing.
The top brass of the Karnataka Police disclosed this at the port city of Mangalore on Thursday.
Speaking to media persons, Gopal Hosur, Inspector General of Police, Western Range, Karnataka said that the Superintendent of Police of Uttara Kannada (North Kanara) district is personally overseeing the investigation and trace the missing scientist named Mahalingam.
"Scientific officer by name Mahalingam has gone missing from June 8 from the Kaiga Atomic Plant in Uttara Kannada district. The police have registered a case of man missing and they have taken up the investigation of the case. The Superintendent of Police of Uttara Kannada district has visited the spot. He has made inquiries. He has been guiding investigations of the missing officer," said Hosur.
"More and more evidence is being gathered to know under what circumstances he went missing and where he could have gone. Probably in a day or two, we should be able to say definitely about this incident," added Hosur.
The scientist L Mahalingam (47) went missing after he went for his usual morning walk.
Police along with officials of the atomic power plant have already conducted a search in the township and nearby places in the Western Ghats including coastal areas of Karwar to locate the scientist without any success. (ANI)
